이번 GS타워 The Street Gallery에서는 전시『이어지는 삶 - 풍경을 걷다』로 일본작가 겐마 히사타카를 만나본다.
한국 생활을 시작한지 어언 3년이 되어가는 그는, 이곳에서 보고 느낀 경험의 흔적들을 캔버스에 담아낸다.
그는 우리가 쉽게 잊고 살아가는 감정들을 마치 포물선 그래프를 그리듯 삶의 리듬으로 표현한다. 작가에게 작업의 소재가 되는 풍경은 그저 재현과 묘사의 대상이 아니다. 그가 그리는 풍경은 한 장의 기록적인 풍경 묘사를 넘어 작가의 철학적 사상과 감정 그리고 경험이 담긴 삶의 흔적들이다.
작가는 자신이 느끼는 감정들을 쉽게 흘려 보내지 않는다. 그는 자신의 감정들에 구체적인 이미지를 조합하여 현재와 미래를 연결시킨다. 작가가 풍경에 담은 리듬은 감정을 대변하는 것이고, 삶은 축적되고 퇴적되어 이루어진 삶의 기록인 셈이다.
그의 작품 『기억으로의 동경 2013』, 『부산 봉래산 2014』, 『제주도 성산일출봉 2013』, 『제주도 우도 2014』를 보자. 그의 작품들은 마치 우리가 살아가는 세상 전체를 한 번에 보여주는 듯한 느낌을 준다. 고요한 풍경 속에는 삶의 흔적들이 공간을 가득 채우고, 흐르는 리듬 속에서 느끼는 잡다한 감정들은 새로운 형상으로 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 이어주는 역할을 한다. 이렇듯, 그는 실재하는 장소를 바탕으로 하면서도 자신의 경험이나 사상 등을 반영하여 캔버스를 채워나간다. 『부산 감천문화마을 2013』은 부산의 가파른 언덕에 지어진 화려한 색깔의 집들과 그 너머로 보이는 아름다운 자연의 경관을, 『제주도 성산 일출봉 2013』에서는 아름다운 섬 제주도의 풍경을 통해 자신의 개인적인 기억들을 캔버스 위에 재구성한다. 작가는 다양한 장소에서 스케치한 풍경과 자신이 경험한 추억 속 모티브들을 결합하여 작품을 완성시킨다.
그의 작품에서 느껴지는 서정적인 분위기와 공간감은 작가가 세상을 바라보는 관점과 내면의 심리상태에서 시작되며, 그것은 보는 이로 하여금 자신의 경험에 비추어 다양하게 해석된다.
우리의 인생에서 가장 중요한 부분은 마음의 유연성을 갖고 살아가는 삶의 자세이다. 그만큼 사람에게 있어 자신의 존재가치를 깨닫는 것은 무엇보다도 중요하다. 그것이 때로는 살아가는 힘이 되고, 절망 속에서는 희망을 찾는 동기 부여가 된다. 그러기에 작가가 작품을 통해 전하고자 하는 삶은 그 어느 때보다 큰 의미로 우리에게 다가온다.
미국의 철학자 헨리 데이비드 소로(Henry David Thoreau, 1817~1862)는 말한다. ‘인간에게는 의식적인 노력으로 자신의 삶을 높일 능력이 분명히 있다는 것보다 더 용기를 주는 사실은 없다.’ 그의 말처럼 의식적인 노력은 자신의 삶을 향상 시킬 능력이 분명히 있다. 이번 전시를 통해 관람객들은 자신의 기억 속 이미지들을 바탕으로 보고 느끼며 사유의 혼재를 경험할 수 있는 계기가 되길 바란다.

이어지는 삶 - 풍경을 걷다
[지휘자가 일정한 시간 음악을 연주하듯 나 역시 일정한 시간 안에 살고 있고 그것을 그려냄으로써 표현한다.]
직선과 나선을 그으면서 가는 삶, 시간은 기다려주지 않고, 삶은 죽을 때가지 쭉 이어진다. 그 안에 무엇인가를 남기려고 하는 삶은 역동적이고 발전적인 삶이 될 것이다.
우리는 많은 것을 잊은 채로 살아 간다. 그 중에 가장 잊기 쉬운 것은 감정이다. 한때는 격양되고 한때는 낮아지니 흐릿하고 잡기가 어려운 것이다. 하지만 그것은 확실히 존재하고 나에게는 종착지로 향하는 직선상의 점과 같은 것이다. 그래서 나는 생각을 종이에 쓰고 남기듯 그것을 그림으로써 쓰려고 한다.
어릴 때 나는 산골에서 자라고 자연물과 그 가운데 솟아나는 인공물에서 다양한 감흥을 받았다. 곱고 매력이 있는 풍경 안에서 놀기도 했다. 산, 밭, 강, 농업을 하는 사람, 그것들은 바로 나의 기억의 모티프가 되어 과거와 현재, 미래를 연결하는 추억으로써의 점이 되었다. 그것들이 삶에 흐르는 리듬 속에서 그때의 감정의 고양을 일으키는 새로운 자극이 되었고, 늘 나를 과거와 현재, 미래로 이어주는 매체가 되었다. 그래서 나는 풍경이라는 점들을 줍고 수놓으려고 한다.
한국에 온지 3년 가까이 되었다. 작품 안에 있는 장소는 직접 가서 경험한 풍경이다. 하나하나의 풍경들은 그 순간에 본 것이었지만 계속 뇌리에서 단편적으로 넘나들었던 것이다. 그 하나하나가 감정을 진동 시키는 리듬이 되고 나에게 어떠한 감정의 파도를 일으킨다. 속초에 있는 바다는 평온함을 주고 제주도의 섬과 센 바람은 늠름한 인상을 주었다. 부산의 가파른 언덕에 지어진 화려한 색깔의 집들은 시간을 잊게 해주고 서울의 야경에서는 많은 에너지를 받기도 했다.
나선과 직선을 긋는 것으로 나는 삶의 리듬을 그린다. 선을 긋는 것이 바로 현재와 미래를 잇는 행위가 된다. 나는 점들을 이어가면서 사고의 테두리를 벗어난 리얼한 장소와 만나려고 한다.

We meet Japanese artist Hisataka Genma through the exhibition "Continuing Life-Walking Through the Scenery".
It has been 3 years since he started living in Korea, and he puts traces of the experiences he saw and felt here on canvas. He expresses the emotions that we easily forget and live with as a rhythm of life as if drawing a parabolic graph.
For the artist, the landscape, which is the subject of his work, is not merely an object of representation and description. The landscape he draws goes beyond a single documentary depiction of landscapes, and is traces of life that contain the artist's philosophical thoughts, emotions, and experiences. The artist does not easily let go of the emotions he feels. He combines specific images with his emotions to connect the present and the future. The rhythm that the artist puts in the landscape represents emotions, and life is a record of life that has been accumulated and accumulated. Let's look at his works 『Tokyo 2013』, 『Bongnaesan Mountain 2014』, 『Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak 2013』, Jeju Island 2014』. His works give the feeling of showing the whole world in which we live at once. In the tranquil landscape, traces of life fill the space, and the miscellaneous emotions felt in the flowing rhythm play a role that connects the past, present and future in a new shape. In this way, he fills his canvas by reflecting his experiences and ideas while being based on his real place. 『Busan Gamcheon Culture Village 2013』 shows colorful houses built on the steep hills of Busan and the beautiful natural scenery beyond them. 『Jeju Island Seongsan Ilchulbong 2013』 reconstructs your personal memories on canvas through the beautiful scenery of Jeju Island. do.
The artist completes his work by combining the landscape sketched in various places and the motifs in the memories he experienced. The lyrical atmosphere and sense of space felt in his work begins with the artist's view of the world and his inner psychological state, which is interpreted in various ways by the viewer in the light of his experience. The most important part of our life is the attitude of living with flexibility of mind. As such, it is most important for a person to realize the value of one's existence. Sometimes it becomes the strength to live and the motivation to find hope in despair. Therefore, the life the artist wants to convey through his work comes to us in a greater meaning than ever.
American philosopher Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) says. “There is no fact that gives humans more courage than that they have the ability to enhance their lives through conscious effort.” As he said, conscious effort clearly has the ability to improve their lives. We hope that this exhibition will be an opportunity for visitors to see and feel the images in their memories and experience the mixture of thoughts. -Jo Eunji-

Continuing life-walking through the landscape
[As a conductor plays music for a certain time, I live within a certain time and express it by drawing it.] Life goes by drawing straight lines and spirals, time does not wait, and life continues until death. The life of trying to leave something in it will be a dynamic and developing life.
We live with many things forgotten. One of the easiest to forget is emotion. At one time it is exuberant and at one time it is low, so it is blurry and difficult to catch. But it certainly exists and for me it is like a point on a straight line to the destination. So I try to write my thoughts by drawing them as if writing them on paper.
As a child, I grew up in the mountains and was inspired by the natural objects and the artefacts rising in the middle. I also played in the beautiful and charming scenery. Mountains, fields, rivers, people who do agriculture, they became the motifs of my memories and became points as memories connecting the past, present, and future. They became a new stimulus that raised emotions at that time in the rhythm of life, and became a medium that always connected me to the past, present, and future. So, I try to pick up the points of scenery and embroider them.
It has been almost 3 years since I came to Korea. The place in the work is the scenery I went to and experienced. Each landscape was what I saw at that moment, but it continued to cross fragmentarily in my mind. Each of them becomes a rhythm that vibrates emotions and creates a wave of emotions in me. The sea in Sokcho gave a serenity, and the islands of Jeju Island and the strong wind gave a dignified impression. The colorful houses built on the steep hills of Busan made me forget time and received a lot of energy from the night view of Seoul.
By drawing spirals and straight lines, I draw the rhythm of life. Drawing a line becomes the act of connecting the present and the future. As I connect the dots, I try to meet a real place that is outside the bounds of thinking.
